Weight Loss Surgery in Idaho

We Idahoans take freedom seriously. Sadly, however, our freedom is being threatened by a disease – a disease that can limit our activities, our health, and our lives. That disease is obesity.

Obesity is the condition of being significantly above one’s healthy weight, and it is epidemic in our society. In the Gem State alone more than 60% of the population is overweight or obese. Our state spends over $227 million hard-earned tax dollars every year treating obesity and related illnesses. Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States, and may lead to co-morbidities, which are other life-threatening conditions, like diabetes and heart disease.

Are you obese? It’s easy to find out. Healthy weight is calculated in terms of individual body mass index (BMI), and BMI is calculated by the following formula: weight in pounds x 703 / (height in inches)2

If you have a BMI of at least 25, you are considered overweight; if your BMI is 30 or above, you are considered obese. Many scientists and physicians believe that the obesity epidemic is the most serious health threat facing the population of our state. For the sake of ourselves and our children, Idaho must act to stop the obesity epidemic from spreading.

Obesity as a Disease

Obesity is not a character flaw. It is a disease, and one difficult to treat. Fad diets, exercise programs, and weight-loss shakes or pills only address the symptoms of obesity -- they are not treatments, and are certainly not the cure.

The cure for obesity is to establish healthy living habits for a lifetime. Some can do this by willpower alone. Others need a medically-supervised diet and program of counseling. And for those for who these methods are insufficient, another option exists: weight loss surgery.

The Surgical Option

For those with a BMI of 35 or higher and one or more co-morbidities, surgical weight loss – also known as bariatric surgery -- has been proven a lifesaver. It can also help those who are obese but have no co-morbidities to head off the consequences of obesity. The most widely-used procedure, La-band surgery, is performed laparoscopically under general anesthesia. and involves the implantation of a small inflatable band on the patient’s stomach. When inflated, this band creates a small pouch for ingested food; the patient feels full right away, and therefore eats less.

No Magic Wand

Weight loss surgery is not a magic wand that can make obesity disappear. Those who have the surgery but fail to heed postoperative instructions may regain any weight lost. Weight loss surgery is almost always irreversible, as well.

If you struggle with obesity and are thinking about having bariatric surgery, be sure to consult with your physician and a qualified bariatric surgeon regarding the risks and possible outcomes of the different procedures.

As part of a program of medical care, weight loss surgery can be a true lifesaver. But, recovery from obesity requires a lifelong commitment to healthy living to remain effective. We Idahoans should be ready to make that commitment if we want to preserve the health and freedom we enjoy.

JUDO - The Art of Self-Perfection

Have you ever wondered what exactly is up with Judo? When you talk about martial arts, what comes first in your mind? This informative article can give you an insight into everything you've ever wanted to know aboHave you ever wondered what exactly is up with judo? When you talk about martial arts, what comes first in your mind?

This informative article can give you an insight into everything you've ever wanted to know about judo and martial arts.

Judo made the biggest impact in 1964 when it was first introduced into the Olympic Games. Now, it is practiced by millions of people all across the world. Judo can help students stay in shape, excel in all areas of competition, stay protected with self defense, and several other things.

There are many reasons for learning Judo. For a majority of students, Judo is practiced just for fun. Judo provides exercise, relaxation, sport, an interesting challenge, balance, coordination, self-protection and self-confidence. Although it starts out as fun for many, it quickly turns into a way of life, a burning passion if you will.

Modern Judo is a martial art based on the traditional Jujutsu fighting and self-defense techniques of Japan. It was developed by Professor Jigoro Kano from a martial art called Jujutsu (also spelled Jujitsu). He is often called the "Father of Japanese Sports." Professor Jigoro Kano eliminated some of the traditional jujutsu techniques and changed training methods so that most of the moves could be done with full force to create a decisive victory without injury.

The Japanese word "Ju" in Judo means "mild" and "natural" and "do" means "art" and "way." Judo therefore denotes "way to peace" or may be translated as "the Way of gentleness," with the implication of first giving way to ultimately gain victory.

Judo training has many forms for different interests. Some students study the traditional art and forms (kata) of Judo. Other students train for competition by sparring and entering the many tournaments that are available. Other students train for self-defense, and yet other students practice Judo for fun and recreation. Black belts are expected to learn all aspects of Judo.

The most important principle of Judo as practiced was to disturb the center of gravity of the opponent, and then pull or push in a way that the opponent cannot stand, exerting skill rather than strength, so that he might lose his equilibrium and fall heavily to the ground. A series of rules was taught respecting the different motions of feet, legs, arms, hands, the thigh and back, in order to accomplish this object.

Judo is an art, after all, a practical approach to life. Judo develops complete body control, fine balance, and fast reflexive action. Develops a keen desire to coordinate mind and body. Also, provides the means for learning self-confidence, concentration, and leadership skills, as well as physical coordination, power, and flexibility.

This is an excellent martial art - that anyone can enjoy.

Female Bodybuilding Tactics For Success (Health and Fitness)

I'm going to share with you some female bodybuilding tactics that will help you be more successful. This can be a tough sport. Not because it is a difficult task, it is something that requires vigilant dedication for long periods of time. It's hard to remain perfectly dedicated, living in the real world where everyone around you isn't doing what you're doing. I hope to help you out with that.

I think the best thing you can do for yourself is to make a plan. You should have a plan for what you're going to eat, when you're going to eat it and what you're going to do when you workout. These three important things help you eliminate the process of thought from action. You'll notice as you take on this task that having to think and figure out things can really take energy away from you. Energy that would probably be best served for action. A plan makes things easy because you don't have to think, you just follow.

With the same philosophy in place, you should also limit the amount of diversity in your food. I know we all like to have something different to eat all the time, but that won't help you. Having different food available to you puts in a decision mode where you have to choose. That takes up energy. The less meals you limit yourself to, the less you have to think and the more you act. Top athletes with the lowest body fat percentages have been shown to eat practically the same things everyday. Take advantage of that fact.

Iron Dolls is the only female bodybuilding guide around. It is a step by step guide for starting out to getting into competition state. Check out my Iron Dolls Review.

Lose Weight Without Really Trying

It is more than possible to lose weight without going on a formal weight loss program or complicated exercise program. There are certain easy steps that need to be taken under these “off the cuff” circumstances, but if you can stay focused and remember these simple steps when you are at the grocery store or contemplating stopping at a restaurant for lunch or dinner, you really can lose weight quickly and a substantial amount of weight over a period of a few months. Here are some of tips you can follow that you can incorporate and lose a dazzling amount of weight - 10, 20 or 30 pounds.

Move around every chance you get. Make a point of taking walks or in general walking further than you need to, start bending more and by all means exercise anytime you are inspired to. The physical activity of course will also help you attain that magic desired balance where you are burning off as many calories as you are taking in via your diet, and it is at this point, after you attain this balance, that if you eliminate for instance a 200 calorie snack every day, you are going to lose 20 pounds over the course of a year. If you eliminate 3 100 calorie snacks a day, you will lose 30 pounds a year and on it goes.

Cut out fast food completely. Particularly the burgers dripping with animal fat and the cheaper fries. In a new study done in Sweden, 18 slim, healthy Swedish men and women ate meals at popular fast food chains twice a day for four weeks while refraining from exercise. At the end of this experiment the resulting blood tests showed irrefutable evidence that these men and women eating fast food had liver damage. They also had gained an average of 16 pounds. Dramatic results for a four week study.

If we really took the time to look into what, for instance, the fast food burgers were doing to our looks and general health over time, chances are very good we wouldn’t want them anyway.

Read the labels when you go grocery shopping. When you are starting out, don’t go to the store when you are in a hurry. Make it a permanent habit to make the comparison between a regular item and choosing a satisfactory lower calorie replacement. Over time you will be able to go in and pick the lower calorie items you like without giving it much thought, so you will spend minimal time on that – it will become second nature.

Drink all the water you can every day, particularly before a meal. Water helps to kill your appetite and cleanses your body without one calorie added. Water is a good deal all the way around. It even hydrates your skin to give you a more youthful appearance. If you can get into the habit of drinking water instead of soda, and you have been drinking a fair amount of soda daily, you could lose 30 pounds in three months.

If you can adopt these steps into your lifestyle, you never have to think of it as dieting, and you will still look and feel much better than you would otherwise. You will probably live longer too. These are small sacrifices for a big payoff, and you can start shedding those pounds right away.
