"What are the signs?" That's what every woman wants to know. Are there warning signs that would expose the secret life of a down-low man? The "down-low" or "DL" is a term which refers to men who secretly have sex with other men while in a sexual relationship with women. She may be his wife, girlfriend or just a friend with benefits, but the down-low specifies she is not "in the know" about his homosexual activities. Down-Low men purposely avoid looking or acting feminine.

They try to portray themselves as strong and masculine in a deliberate effort to exterminate any doubt of their heterosexuality. A woman cannot determine a man's sexuality by his mannerisms or style of dress alone, however there are many warning signs ranging from the most obvious to the very subtle.

The number one sign of detecting a down-low man is a woman's intuition. Our intuition speaks to us through fleeting thoughts and physical sensations, such as tingling of the skin, hair standing up on the back of the neck, and a bad feeling in the stomach. Others have described their intuition as a spoken whisper or an instant aversion to someone. It could be an uncomfortable feeling that something is weird, off, or wrong. If a woman feels that something is wrong in her relationship, she's probably right and further investigation is needed.

A woman's intuition will reveal the truth about a person or situation without reason or logic, but she has to be willing to trust it. Other down-low warning signs include:
1) Lack of sexual desire
2) Gay porn/Internet activities
3) Shaving body hair
4) Display of excessive hatred towards gays
5) Very secretive
6) Frequently hangs out at the gym
7) Emotional detachment

These are just a few of the signs displayed by DL/closeted gay men. The signs above may not be portrayed by every man on the down-low and some DL men will even portray signs not discussed here. Please keep in mind some straight men could also display one or two of the above signs. These signs can be used as guidelines to help women find answers to questions already brought to their attention by their intuition.
